Jump in the car and head up to Tumut, the gateway to the Snowy Mountains Scheme. This journey will take you alongside the Murrumbidgee River and on some of the most scenic backroads in the region through Brungle. Wind your way up the Killimicat Hill to Tumut, which is situated on the banks of the Tumut river. Tumut's history is on show in many of the local streets, but its energy won't be lost on new visitors. Spend some time at the Tumut River Brewing company, a micro-brewery kicking big goals with its local brews. Drop into the Pretty Parrot Distillery or take a walk alongside the Tumut river. Foodies are well-looked after in Tumut, with many cafes and pubs taking advantage of the fresh, local and seasonal ingredients produced in the region. Take some of the region home, after a visit to Local at Learmont's. Where fresh local fruit, vegetables and meat are available. Head back down the hill from Tumut via the Gocup road and stop off in Gundagai for afternoon tea in one of the café's in town or pay a visit to the famous 'Dog on the Tuckerbox', five miles from Gundagai. Your journey home to The Sir George will take you through Gobbaralong, giving you another perspective of the mighty Murrumbidgee river.
